Big Island Family Medicine is proud to partner with Quanta System, an Italian company that provides laser systems for aesthetics, surgery, and art conservation. Quanta lasers perform a number of aesthetic treatments, such as hair removal, tattoo removal, wrinkle reduction, scar reduction, and skin resurfacing.

There are a number of ways that wrinkles form. As we age, our skin naturally loses elasticity as collagen and elastin fibers in the skin break down, a process that is accelerated by exposure to sunlight and UV light. Another consequence of the aging process is reduced fat and moisture in the skin. Drier and thinner skin is more prone to developing wrinkles. Finally, repetitive motions such as smiling, frowning, and furrowing the brow create creases in the skin that become permanent over time.

Aesthetic lasers can help smooth over wrinkles by stimulating the skin’s natural healing process. The laser removes the topmost layers of the dermis, allowing new skin to be created, replacing the old wrinkled skin with new, smoother skin.

Laser scar removal works much the same way. The laser handpiece is run over the treatment area, where it stimulates the formation of new skin. Over time, the scar becomes smoothed out and disappears. Treatment lengths vary depending on how large and deep the scar is in the first place.

Finally, if you’re interested in a general revitalization of the skin, then laser skin resurfacing may be right for you. This treatment generally covers larger areas of the skin. The result after several treatments is smoother, firmer, more vibrant skin with a youthful glow.
